Firewood Cutting for Tribal Members

Opening on Friday, January 30, Tulalip Tribal members will be allowed to collect firewood from select locations. Firewood may be collected from the T1055, T1056 and T1058 road off of the T1000 (Arcadia). There will be no log length loading. All wood must be cut to 24" or less in length. Permits are required for all woodcutting. Permits will be available at the front desk at the Tribal center. Standing trees may not be cut.

Community Meetings

Community Meetings are back. On Thursday, January 29 we will be having our first Community Meeting of 2009. This meeting will introduce the Youth Services Staff to the Community. Those in attendance will be able to ask questions about the Tribal services provided and hopefully improve how Tribal government works for you. Dinner will be served at 5pm with the meeting set to begin at 5:30pm in the Main Gym. As a reminder, Community Meetings will be held on the 4th Thursday of every month, with January's meeting being an exception, taking place on the 5th Thursday. Therefore, the next meeting will take place on Thursday, February 26th, 2009. We look forward to seeing you there!

Burn Ban to be Lifted

Due to the ever changing weather, the burn ban will no longer apply starting Sunday, January 25, 2009. The decision to remove the burn ban was made by the EPA. Once again, a stage 2 burn ban remains in effect through Saturday night.

Burn Ban Upgraded to Stage 2

A Stage 2 burn ban has gone into effect on January 20. The effect is due to increased air stagnation which further reduced the air quality to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups".

Stage 2. During a Stage 2 burn ban:

• No burning is allowed in any fireplace, pellet stove or wood stove (certified or not), unless it is your only adequate source of heat.

• You can use natural gas or propane fireplaces.

• No visible smoke is allowed from any solid fuel burning device at any time.

This burn ban does not affect ceremonial or cultural fires, such as the ones at the Tribes longhouse. Also, this burn ban will remain in effect until the air quality in our area improves and the burn ban is lifted. It is currently forecast to last until Sunday, January 17, 2009

Rescheduled Community Meeting

Due to funerals in our community, tonight's Community Meeting with Youth Services has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 29th. Dinner will be served at 5:00pm in the Tribal Gym with the meeting beginning at 5:30. Please plan to join us for the first of our monthly community meetings.

Stage 1 Burn Ban

A Stage 1 burn ban goes into effect tomorrow, Wednesday, January 14, 2009. The effect is due to air stagnation which reduced the air quality to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups".

Stage 1. During a Stage 1 burn ban:

• No burning is allowed in fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves, unless it is your only adequate source of heat. This includes the use of manufactured logs such as Duraflame or Javalogs.

• You can use pellet stoves, EPA-certified wood stoves and natural gas or propane fireplaces.

• No visible smoke is allowed from any solid fuel burning devices, beyond a 20 minute start-up period.

Stage 2. During a Stage 2 burn ban:

• No burning is allowed in any fireplace, pellet stove or wood stove (certified or not), unless it is your only adequate source of heat.

• You can use natural gas or propane fireplaces.

• No visible smoke is allowed from any solid fuel burning device at any time.

Grief and Loss Workshop

A one time workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th at the Family Services Center in building "B". The purpose of the workshop is to provide information about the grieving cycle. It is very natural and common to grieve over a loss. Come find the support you need and learn the more about the four tasks that will help you get through a tough loss. Tasks such as how to avoid the loss, facing the loss, learning to live with the loss, and gathering cherished memories to provide closure. This workshop is open to all Tribal members.
