Tribal Gym Open to Homeless Tribal Members

The Tulalip Tribal gym is open from 5 pm to 8 am for Tulalip Tribal Members to get out of the cold temperatures. A warm supper and breakfast will be served; the following rules must be followed:

  • Must be a Tribal member or spouse (I am sure that if someone is in need we will not turn them away)
  • No use of alcohol or drugs during your stay
  • Men and women can not sleep together
  • No fighting or disrespectful behavior
  • No in and out privileges
  • No smoking in the gym.

Maintenance workers will staff the gym all night and the Tribal Police will be coming through to do checks.

We are purchasing 20 sleeping bags, pillows, small travel kits with shampoo, soap, etc, and towels. In the morning, we will have them roll up their sleeping bags and pillows and tape them into a garbage bag with their name on it – in case they come back again tomorrow night.

We will be cooking a light supper and breakfast.

Food Drive

Help support the Red Church. From December 15 through December 22, 2008 the Red Church will be accepting donations for the last week before Christmas. If you have not donated, there's still time. If you have donated already, there's still room for more. Non-perishable food items are the best to give due to their long shelf life. Food drive boxes are located at the Tribal Center Front Desk, Casino Reception Desk, TDS Reception Desk, Tulalip Health Clinic, Tulalip Police Department and the South Lot Reception Desk. For more information on how to donate, contact Mytyl Hernandez at (360) 716-4013.

Heritage Hawks Basketball Scores

The Tulalip Heritage Hawks had a perfect record this week. The boys and girls basketball teams won both of their games. On Tuesday, Heritage girls outscored Marysville-Pilchuck sophomores 67 to 16. Meanwhile, Heritage boys defeated the M-P sophomores 79 to 64. That was on December 9th. Following Tuesdays win, Heritage was matched up against Grace Academy on Wednesday, December 10th. The short turn around had little effect on the outcome. Grace Academy girls were defeated by a score of 39 to the Heritage girls 56 points. Heritage boys responded similarly, defeating Grace Academy boys by a score of 57 points to 34.

Note: Basketball games are playing on KANU-TV channel 99 as per the schedule. Additionally, both games are "on-demand" and can be played back at your convenience. Just check out www.kanutv.com for more information.

As of this posting, both Heritage Boys and Heritage Girls won their first games of the season, off to a perfect start. This year will be different than in years past because of the new gym location. Come out and support your Tulalip athletes!
